Safeguarding Children's Teeth! 2025 Comprehensive Intervention Project for Children's Oral Diseases Fully Launched in Longwen District
To consolidate the achievements in children's oral health and further enhance the capacity for oral disease prevention and control at the grassroots level, the Longwen District Health Commission officially launched the 2025 Longwen Comprehensive Intervention Project for Children's Oral Diseases on April 8–9. As an implementing unit for the National Comprehensive Intervention Project for Children's Oral Diseases, Longwen District is undertaking this initiative for the second consecutive year. Through scientific and systematic intervention measures, the project aims to effectively reduce the incidence of dental caries among children in Longwen District and improve their overall oral health status. For this initiative, a team of experts from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Fujian Medical University was specially invited to organize and coordinate the participation of various units, including the Buwen Subdistrict Community Health Service Center, the Guokeng Central Health Center, and two "Healthy Oral Cavity Promotion Bases"—the Frog Prince Azalli Dental Clinic and the Longwen Hengmei Dental Clinic—established by the China Foundation for Prevention and Control of Dental Diseases.
Campus-Based Demonstrative Teaching: Solidifying Practical Foundations
On the afternoon of April 8, the training initiative made its first stop at the Longwen District No. 2 Kindergarten (Poly World Trade Park Campus) in Zhangzhou City. As a vital component of the National Comprehensive Intervention Project for Children's Oral Diseases, this practical training session strictly adhered to the technical specifications and requirements set forth by the national project. Under the guidance of the expert team from the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Fujian Medical University, medical and nursing staff from the Frog Prince Azalli Dental Clinic and the Longwen Hengmei Dental Clinic conducted oral health examinations for age-appropriate children, established standardized health records, and underwent assessments to ensure consistency in operational standards.
Subsequently, a dentist from the Frog Prince Azalli Dental Clinic delivered a lively and engaging oral health education lesson to the children, disseminating knowledge on proper brushing techniques and dental care. Finally, a questionnaire-based survey was conducted among teachers and parents to gauge the specific needs regarding oral health education, thereby providing a solid basis for future health promotion and educational activities.
Centralized Training to Strengthen Theory: Enhancing Service Capabilities
On the morning of April 9, the Longwen District Health Commission organized a specialized training conference. The event featured a thematic lecture delivered by Dr. Ding Lincan—Chief Physician and Associate Professor at the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Fujian Medical University. The training curriculum covered project management protocols, health education methodologies, and the standardized operational procedures for nationally recommended appropriate technologies—such as oral health examinations, pit and fissure sealants, and topical fluoride application—with the aim of ensuring the consistent quality and efficient implementation of project services. As an implementing region for the National Comprehensive Intervention Program for Children's Oral Diseases, Longwen District has established a standardized system for children's oral health services following two consecutive years of project implementation. This initiative not only provides free oral health services to eligible children but also serves as a crucial measure for enhancing the region's overall capacity for oral healthcare delivery. The Longwen District Health Commission is committed to continuously optimizing service protocols, strengthening the training of specialized professionals, intensifying public awareness campaigns regarding oral health, and rallying support from all sectors of society to collectively safeguard the oral health of children in Longwen District—ensuring that every child can enjoy a healthy mouth and a brighter smile.
